Our Story

After losing his Aunt (Mary Bolte) to a long battle with ovarian cancer in the fall of 2006, Mark Thomas was inspired by her courage to start a golf tournament to honor his Aunt and raise awareness of the importance and need to fund cancer research. Together with a group of friends and business colleagues GIVE18 was started. From that single event a grassroots movement began encouraging all golfers to utilize the game they love as a vehicle to make a difference in a disease that unfortunately touches all of us.

Our Mission

As an all-volunteer registered 501.c.3 organization, our mission is clear. We want to continue the drive towards "A cancer free world". GIVE18 supports the fight against cancer at The James Comprehensive Cancer Center. We provide seed money to researchers with a great idea to prove their concept in the lab and enable them to continue and advance their research through clinical trials. There is no routine cancer and GIVE18 supports and funds research targeting all types of cancers. Since our inception in 2006 GIVE18 has supported projects targeting Melanoma, Lung, Colorectal, Sarcoma, Ovarian, Prostate & Breast cancers.
At The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC - James), our vision is to create a cancer-free world, one person, one discovery at a time. This underlies everything we do in working to eradicate cancer through research that translates to innovative and highly targeted patient care.

The OSUCCC - James is the only cancer program in the United States that features a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center aligned with a nationally ranked academic medical center and a freestanding cancer hospital on the campus of one of the nation's largest public universities.
Cancer is no longer defined solely by stage and location, but rather by its biologic and genetic makeup. There is no routine cancer - it is different in each person. Working together and utilizing state-of-the-art facilities and technology, clinicians and researchers at Ohio State are speeding the development and delivery of treatments that target the molecules and markers fueling each person's unique cancer.
